Air Force Selects SDRC Via SBIR Program to Develop its Capacity to Provide Dynamic Resource Reservation on Satellite Communication Links

SAN DIEGO, California (4/13/2005) - SDRC (San Diego Research Center, Inc.), a leader in wireless network research and system development in the defense sector, will develop a system allowing real-time bandwidth management of SATCOM links. This is a significant advancement because, at present, satellite communication frequency management does not provide efficient utilization of scarce satellite bandwidth resources

According to Dr. Bo Ryu, SDRC's Principal Investigator (PI), "The final system envisioned by the Air Force will consist of hardware, software and protocols which permit dynamic allocation of satellite frequencies and bandwidth, permit users to reserve bandwidth, prioritize bandwidth use among users, and make emergency overrides.  In addition, it will have a centralized management system with distributed components that can be integrated into current management and scheduling systems.

The objectives for the Phase I program are to determine the mix of hardware, software, and network protocols the system will use and to provide a preliminary end-to-end system design, including interface specifications as needed.

The Phase I Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) program, entitled "A High Performance, Versatile, and Cost Effective Broadband Satellite Networking System of Global information Grid," is funded at $99,540.00 on 4/13/2005.

About the SBIR program: The Department of Defense (DoD) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and  Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs fund a billion dollars each year in early-stage R&D projects at small technology companies - projects that serve a DoD need and have commercial applications. SBIR and STTR funds are awarded competitively and small companies retain the intellectual property rights to technologies they develop under these programs.

About SDRC: SDRC is a wireless technology research and system development company focusing on challenging and important opportunities in government and commercial communications markets.
